NRHNA General Meeting Minutes, January 17, 2000
Meeting was called to order at 7:30 pm by Chair Tom Hodgson.
Attendees included Tom Hodgson, Jeff Trager, Kari Page, Nancy Stephens, Betty Lou Crampton, Mary-Alyce Burleigh, Margaret Carnegie, Jeff Hasson, Jane Hasson, Mike Stultz, Debi Turner, Linda Jones, Ray Hansen, Karen Tennyson, Joyce Buchanan and other neighborhood members totaling approximately 30.

Special Guest:
New Kirkland Council Member, Joyce Buchanan, was introduced and spoke to the NRHNA. She invited our neighborhood to please contact her with any concerns. She welcomes our neighborhood input regarding the volume of new developments affecting North Rose Hill and input regarding traffic control. She said she encourages controlled growth.
Kari Page, City of Kirkland Neighborhoods Contact, announced the a current edition of the NEIGHBORHOOD’S HOT SHEET of current projects will be available starting January 24 week on the City of Kirkland’s website:

Committee Reports:
Jeff Trager, NRHNA Vice-President attended the December meeting of the KAN. He gave us an update regarding THE NEIGHBORHOOD CONFERENCE to be held for half a day on March 4, 2000. It will focus on active neighborhood associations. Suggested subject areas will include: How to foster new leadership, increase involvement, improve communication, and offer “City Hall 101”.
On February 1, a City Hall meeting is scheduled to explain city services, neighborhood improvement grants at a Joint Council Study Session starting at 6:30 pm. Jeff also is encouraging our neighborhood residents to get involved.
YES (Youth Eastside Services) is sponsoring THE SUCCESS PROGRAM, a mentoring program for caring adults to assist youths on a one-on-one basis in their academic, social and personal growth. You may contact THE SUCCESS PROGRAM at (425) 827-6957, ext. 600 or (425) 392-6367 for more information.
Old Business:
Bike Lanes Plan for 132nd Ave NE from NE 85th to Slater Avenue An Open House will be held on Tuesday, January 25, at Fire Station 26, presented by the City of Kirkland to take further input from neighbors with concerns, input.
January 31, Monday, at 7pm at Mark Twain Elementary, the City of Redmond will be meeting with interested neighbors to discuss the future status of the Willows Road to 132nd Avenue NE area.
Comp Plan Update meeting will be held on February 7 at 7pm at Fire Station 26. Interested neighbors please attend as we review the current North Rose Hill portion of the Kirkland Comprehensive Plan.

Recent Losses to NRHNA:
We are sad to report that two of our long time members of NRHNA are no longer with us. Loris Crampton, long-time Treasurer for the NRHNA, and watchdog over City Hall meetings for many years passed away in late December. John Stenhouse, also long time member of NRHNA who was in prior years active in the 45th District Democrats, and helped to organize the Group Health Cooperative passed away during the second week of January. These two gentlemen will be missed by their neighbors.
NEW BUSINESS:
Election of Officers for 2000:
The following officers were re-elected by attending members; Tom Hodgson, President Jeff Trager, Vice-President Mike Stultz, Treasurer Nancy Stephens, Secretary
Committees were appointed as follows:
Neighborhood Comprehensive Plan Update, to be chaired by Jeff Trager and Karen Tennyson
Safe Walking Routes Committee, to be chaired by Jane Hasson, with Jeff Hasson and Kaylee Trager as members
New Developments Watchdog Committee, to be co-chaired by Keren Tennyson and Linda Jones
Roads & Traffic Committee is open for members.
Please feel free to join in the efforts of any of the above committees.
NEIGHBORHOOD GRANT FUNDS are available in the amount of $3500. Categories available for these grant moneys include Communications, Physical Improvements, Neighborhood Identity, Special Events and Leadership Training.
Suggestions were made to have the grant written to request funding for:

NEIGHBORHOOD CIP IDEAS
There is $25,000 per neighborhood available on a rotating three year basis to request special improvements to the neighborhoods that the City of Kirkland may not otherwise give consideration to.
A neighborhood mailing will be made giving each resident of the neighborhood an opportunity to vote.
