General Meeting Minutes
May 15, 2000

Meeting was called to order at 7:35 p.m. by Chair Tom Hodgson. Attendees included Tom Hodgson, Jeff Trager, Nancy Stephens, Betty Lou Crampton, Mary-Alyce Burleigh, Margaret Carnegie, Mike Stults, Karen Tennyson, Dave Asher, Jeff Hasson, and numerous other North Rose Hill, South Rose Hill, Bridle Trails and Juanita neighbors. Special guests included Barry Russell, City Parks Director, Jessica Greenway, Park Board Member and Kari Page, Kirkland Neighborhood Services Coordinator. NRHNA = 24 attendees, SRHNA = 6 attendees, OTHER = 6 attendees.

 

AGENDA:

Treasurer’s Report: $463.67 Account Balance

SPECIAL GUEST: Barry Russell, City Parks

The meeting last night was well attended by neighbors from and North Rose Hill and from several neighborhoods around the city. Barry Russell, Director of Parks, presented the land swap proposal and was followed by Park Board members Jeff Trager and Jessica Greenway who presented additional viewpoints.

The presentations were followed by open discussion during which consensus was reached on several points. Some of the main items were:

  1. It is not appropriate to integrate shopping and commercial services with a city park

    1a) There should be a clear boundary between commercial and park land uses

  2. There is no benefit to the public in reconfiguring the boundaries of Peter Kirk Park
  3. Additional parking places offered by the developer have little or no value to park users
  4. Pedestrian safety issues associated with 85th St. can be solved without a land swap.

Other NRH business:

  1. NRHNA will request code enforcement for Auto dealers on 85th and 124th who use balloons for promotions.
  2. The Summer picnic will be held on July 29th at Woodlands Park
  3. The NRH Picnic organizing committee will meet May 22, Monday at the fire station at 7:30 to plan the event.
