General Meeting of the North Rose Hill Neighborhood Association

Place: North Rose Hill fire Station

Date: January 16,2006

Call to Order: 7:05

The meeting was called to order by Karen Tennyson at 7:05 pm.

Karen had all board members stand up and introduce themselves to the rest of the neighbors present; Jeff Trager, Betty Lou Crampton, Margaret Carnegie, Kevin Miller, Stuart Hall, Karen Tennyson, and Sharon Clark.

Karen informed the meeting as to what the Association does for the neighborhood:

• Improvements to Woodland Park, Play area and more.
• The July picnic was held at Mark Twain School this past July due to the construction of the new Gazebo at Woodlands Park.
• The planting of 50 trees throughout the neighborhood and planted by a group of the members.
• NRHNA sponsors a float in the 4^th of July parade
• Clean-up is held a couple times a year of 124^th and Mark Twain Elementary School grounds.

We have four members of our neighborhood on City Council: Mary Alyce Burleigh, Dave Asher, Jim Lauinger the new Mayor, and Tom Hodgeson.

REPORTS:

Jeff Trager – Park Board Member

• Explained that the current improvements to the Parks have been by the Bond voted in a couple years back. (The enlargement of Woodlands, the Gazebo)
• Mark Twain park is up for improvement of the play structures, and the basket ball court was improved this past summer.
• There is a search on to find property in the North part of NRH to create a new small neighborhood park.

Karen Tennyson – Planning Commission Member

• Meetings are held the 2^nd and 4^th Thursday of every month in council chambers at City Hall starting at 7:00 p.m.

Kevin Miller – Woodlands Park Playground

• Explained that he helped form a group of involved neighbors to get a playground constructed in Woodlands Park.
• They have raised $90,000 of the $115,00 that is required
• June 14 – 18, 2006 is the date for construction
• They will be publishing a work plan for the people that are donating their time to help during construction
• Since this is a neighborhood park there has been no new parking added, it is a park for families and friends to walk to. Restrooms are available in the Fire Department building when the crew is in the building.
• Dog policy is the same for all of Kirkland, on leash.

Sidewalk Evaluation:

• The sidewalk commission studied where the sidewalk issues are in our city and safe school routes is the number one concern, which includes ¼ mile around the school.
• After the study was done, the cost was quite high and with the school bond up for vote this year the sidewalk bond will be put on hold for now.

Betty Lou Crampton: 85^th Street Plan

• Gave an overview of the 85^th street plans
• Hoping to add sidewalks on both sides of the street and under-grounding utilities

Karen Tennyson attended the KAN meeting and said the city is going to start up the walk route program and have printed brochures of walk routes in all the neighborhoods in the city.

Margaret and Sharon reported to the meeting that some of the Centennial trees have been planted in Woodlands Park and Mark Twain Park.
