General Meeting of the North Rose Hill Neighborhood Association

Board members present at meeting: Margaret Carnegie, Sharon Clark, Carol Nielson,  Bud Gessell, Arthur Best, Mike Stults, Linda Jones

The question posed as usual, “What brought people to the Neighborhood meeting”

·         The three came due to the mailing of the postcard

·         One came due to the neighborhood signs on the streets

·         One came because a neighbor informed them of the meeting.

·         Three email reminder

·         Two neighbors came to the meeting for the very first time.

Announcements: The board has been working on a Neighborhood Survey and it should go out to later this year.

Neighborhood Resource Officer for our neighborhood from the City of Kirkland Police Department is Alan O’Neal.  Non-emergency/business — (425) 587-3400, TDD/Hearing and Speech Impaired — (425) 587-3400.  If you have any concerns, do not hesitate in calling him.

 

Margaret asked about neighborhood concerns and topics for future meetings.

·        Safety – re: recent robberies, parked car break ins, and home break ins.

·        Rail – what will be happening with the rail where the Dinner Train use to travel.  Will it become a walking/jogging path or can it co-exist with light rail moving people form Woodinville to Renton.

·        Could we get Eric Shields form the planning department to come and speak about FAR’s (floor area ratio’s) , the concern of home sizes.

·        Speak on the Tree Ordinance that was adopted last year.

·        Lights on Slater Ave.

 

There was a break in over the weekend at Compton Square.

The remodel of the building on the corner of 126th and 85th will no longer house a Grocery Store, but no on knew what will move in.

 

2007 Accomplishments:

·        Neighborhood sign on Park Kiosks, designed by Tom Hodgeson.

·        Forbes Lake monitoring, led by Bud Gesell, with the lake being healthy.

·        Betty Lou Crampton updated the “Welcome Packets”

·        Mike Stults and Betty Lou Crampton in conjunction with the city help create a neighborhood walking map

·        March and December clean-up of 124th Ave. NE led by Mary-Alyce Burleigh

·        E-Mail to Rob Jammerman, City of Kirkland, regarding sidewalk design that got changed in at least one place 9near 95th & 130th) and hopefully there be better attention in the future.

·        Neighborhood Watch program info for Jennifer Joffe and later for others through Arthur Best

·        Accomplished a new idea of distributing Picnic Flyers by hand by Arthur Best.

·        Well attended neighborhood picnic, led by Dave Boyer with music, provided by Pete Weller, hot dogs grilled by Kathy Boyer, equipment stored and delivered by Jeff Trager, Face painting by Kaylee Nilan, food stations manned by Milt Olson and others, banner organized by Karen Tennyson.

·        New pathway signs in neighborhood; one on Slater and two on 130th Ave. NE.

·        Float Entry in Kirkland 4th of July Parade with Twain Elementary unicyclists, thanks to Kaylee Nilan

·        Police help with Twain Park drug activity.  Police attendance at our meeting to hear the concerns of immediate neighbors of Twain Park.

·        Twain Elementary grounds clean-up and re-barking led by Jeff Trager and Kaylee Nilan

·        North Rose Hill Neighborhood Association homepage updating and changes, thanks to Angie Kugler and Milt Olson

·        Woodlands Park lawn planting by City.

·        Playground wood preservation treatment led by Kevin Miller

·        Honda noise/light problem has improved, led by Linda Jones.

·        Retention Pond planting @ 126th Ave. NE and NE 94th Way, led by Betsy Adams form the City of Kirkland, laborers by neighbors.

·        Neighborhood sign raised on 124th Ave. NE at Honda property, thanks to Kari Page.  Lighting still in the works.

·        Neighborhood Connections Grant prepared for January 2008 mailing, thanks to Kari Page

 

Totem Lake Shopping Center redevelopment is on hold for now according to John Regula, city planner.

 Letter of Thanks read from the Boy’s and Girl’s club for our Neighborhood donation to help out families during the Holidays.

Highlands neighborhood has a walkway with sidewalks almost completed to downtown.  The NRHNA is joining them to celebrate with a joint walk sometime in early Spring, the date will be announced later.

Seafair Marathon is scheduled for Sunday June 29th.  If we can get 15 people to man a water station, we get $200 for the NRHNA.  Let a Board member know if you are interested.

Kathy Iverson who lives in NRH is a member of the Kirkland Senior Council which has 15 members, and is the liason between our neighborhood and the City with any issues that concern Seniors.  They have an emphasis right now for the CERT Training.  If you want to find them on the cities website they are under the Parks Department area of the website http://www.ci.kirkland.wa.us/depart/parks/Senior_Services/Senior_Council.htm

 

Next meeting February 16, 7:00 at the fire station, to be a Board meeting but anybody is welcome.
