Betty Lou suggested we get the New Neighbor Welcome Packets updated and have a table set up at the Woodlands Park playground construction week in June, to have available for NRH neighbors. The table could also spark interest for neighbors in attending future NRH Neighborhood
Meetings.
Summer Picnic: July 15, 2006
- Betty Lou brought up a question as to whether we wanted live music or canned music at the picnic.
- Karen’s thought was that live music is nice, but becomes more a focal point and the canned music serves better as background sound. The general consensus was for canned music.
- This year the picnic will be back in the area of the new Gazebo. The Gazebo will be where the food will be stationed. Will not be able to have it in the area where the new Playground will be due to planting the grass after construction.
- Bouncers will be in the same place as previous years.
- Dave has reserved two bouncers, the Russian Castle and the Party Bouncer for $585.00; this includes the insurance from the rental company with two attendants stationed to monitor the safety of the children. Dave said he could cut cost with one larger bouncer and which comes with one monitor, but the overall consensus was to go with the two to separate the older kids from the toddlers for basic safety. There was a question brought up about insurance covering the picnic, but when we rent the bouncers, it includes insurance form the rental company and we thought since the picnic was on city property we all know to come at our own risk. Betty Lou and Margaret were going to ask Kari Paige at the next KAN meeting about our concerns.
- Dave has also reserved the large BBQ for the picnic.
Grant:
- Since the new rules for procuring the Neighborhood Grant rests on citizen participation, we need to keep track of all the hours spent working in the neighborhood, such as the clean up of 124th and Mark Twain School, the building of the Playground at Woodlands Park, etc. The hourly rate is $15.00 per hour.
- Sharon offered to create a spread sheet to track the hours per project to give to Karen when she writes the Grant, suggesting the hours be sent to her via email after each time work has been done. This way it would all be compiled in one document rather than a bunch of different pages. The format will be forth coming from Kari Paige.
- We will also be asking for extra Grant money again this year if there is any available.
Web-Master:
- Milt Olson has generously offered to be the new Web-Master and was introduced to the Board.
- His first request was to get the Meeting notes updated and have them on line.
- He needed the new officers list to post, which Sharon informed him they were on the January Meeting notes.
- He also asked if we wanted the Seattle Neighborhoods, newspapers, weather, and any other links available on the website, which there was a yes to all.
- He also suggested a listing of the Utilities Servicing NRH and a link to their websites, City of Kirkland which is already there, and suggested a general email account be set up like info @ NRH.org so the general populace can email and ask questions of the neighborhood, but not having the emails plugging up everyone’s email, have it go to a selected few. All the suggestions were met with a yes.
Neighborhood U:
- To be held the 18th and the 26th of April from 6 – 9, held at the (old name Senior Center) Peter Kirk Community Center.
The 18th Meeting: Kirkland Neighborhood Services, to talk about ho to get neighbors involved

Kaylee asked if the students that are in her class would like to participate in the parade on their Unicycles; the suggestion was to go with the smaller trailer we already have and include the Unicyclists as part of the NRH float. (not riding on the float)
Planning Commission:
- Karen said they are discussing changing the FAR’s (Floor Area Ratio) which is looking at reducing the size of houses on lots in Kirkland. She suggested people should come to the planning commission meeting to present their views on lot sizes and houses. Also, they are encouraged to bring pictures of houses in the neighborhood that they like and don't like and whether they support or do not support the change.
