Due to city budget problems, the neighborhood funding was drastically cut. We will be looking for picnic sponsors. If you know of a business, or someone who might be interested in helping, let us know. Or we could ask neighbors to sponsor a certain item, such as a cake or some hotdogs. If you’re interested in being a sponsor or connecting us with someone who might be, you can let a Board member know tonight or let us know later. Any other ideas/thoughts are always welcomed.

Newly elected City Council Members:
Mayor: Joan McBride introduced herself; she has been on the council for 12 years. She acknowledged a long standing, active North Rose Hill resident, Ray Hansen’s passing and said the City Council acknowledged and dedicated the first council meeting to him.
Council concerns:
1. Budget, with the deficit and economic climate the city has a hard job ahead.
2. City Managers Search, January 26 7:00 City Hall Recruiter coming up from California for an open meeting asking community for their input. What are the skill sets needed to be city manager, what concerns community has to find the right candidate.
3. Annexation a huge endeavor for the city and we need to get it right.
Deputy Mayor: Penny Sweet noted she is impressed with NRH, our hard working neighbors and just a great neighborhood. She said she has lived in Kirkland 25 years, Owns The Grape Choice along with her husband, former City Councilman Larry Springer, current State Representative. She has been active in our city, involved in the down town, is on the Market neighborhood, Chair for last 2 years. Founder of Celebrate Kirkland, and is proud to be elected to city council and proud of our community. Penny said to come down to the Grape Choice to chat; she said you are not required to buy wine if you come in.
Doreen Marchione: Has lived in Kirkland for 17 years, Moss Bay Neighborhood, Past Board Member of the Kirkland Performance Center, City Salary commission, Head of Hopelink for 15 years, open to people to contact her and talk. She has spent most of her life giving back to her community.
Amy Walen: Appreciates the Honor to serve. She and her Husband are owners of Ford of Kirkland, she and her family live in Houghton. Finance is her forte’ and she is the financial officer at the Dealership. Amy is a Breast Cancer Survivor, she received her treatment at Evergreen Hospital and she feels they saved her life and after the ordeal, her gratefulness led her to want to give back to the community and council was suggested and became her goal. She is interested in bringing business and neighborhoods together by creating programs such as adopt a park and work together to maintain our parks.
A question from one attendee: what is happening at Totem Lake? Council plans to focus on this area. The original development team ran into financial troubles so project put on hold. The Mayor is working on a Developers Summit to find the practical steps to go about development of Totem Lake Mall and surrounding area.
Margaret feels the NRH gets neglected by the city and is concerned that the city does not forget about NRH with Annexation coming up, in regards to sidewalks along 124th and other side streets.
Joanna Palmer Long time Kirkland Resident: Came to the meeting to urge us all to vote for schools. She gave a power point presentation on the amounts and timelines.
